Since 1955, Sullivan Tire has helped keep New England moving with honest guidance, expert service and a simple promise: treat every customer and fellow employee like family.

What began in a small garage in Rockland, Massachusetts, has grown into a 100% employee-owned company with more than 125 locations and operating facilities across New England. Through every chapter, Sullivan Tire has remained independent, locally committed and focused on earning customers’ trust.

A company built around people

Sullivan Tire began when Bob Sullivan was instructed by his employer to lay off nearly half his team. Rather than carry out the order, Bob resigned and chose to build a company of his own.

With the support of his wife, Mary, he rented a small garage in Rockland and opened Bob Sullivan and Sons Tire. The early team often worked outdoors through every kind of New England weather, guided by the principle that would define the business:

That belief shaped how Sullivan Tire served customers, supported employees and grew throughout the region.

Growing without losing our roots

After operating from one location for 16 years, Sullivan Tire began expanding across Massachusetts and into neighboring states. New generations of the Sullivan family learned the business from the ground up, working in stores, repairing tires and serving customers before taking on leadership roles.

Over time, Sullivan Tire added retail tire and automotive service centers, commercial truck facilities, wholesale operations, retread plants, distribution centers and LiftWorks locations. The company also welcomed established local businesses into its network, often retaining their employees, expertise and community relationships.

Today, Sullivan Tire serves individual drivers, independent dealers, repair facilities and commercial fleets across five New England states.

100% employee-owned

In 2023, the Sullivan family transferred ownership of the company to its employees through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan.

The decision reflected the same people-first values on which the company was founded. Rather than sell to an outside buyer, the family chose a path designed to preserve Sullivan Tire’s independence, protect its culture and reward the employees who helped build it.

Today, every employee-owner has a stake in the company’s future—and in the quality of every customer experience.

Sullivan Tire invests in technical training, career development and long-term relationships. Its teams include more than 100 ASE Master Technicians, along with experienced professionals throughout its retail, commercial, wholesale and distribution operations.

Whether helping a driver select the right tires, maintaining a family vehicle or supporting a commercial fleet, the goal is the same: provide knowledgeable service, explain the options clearly and do what is right for the customer.
